Title: Last Post

2. Tag line: One route left. One storm coming. One mailman who refuses to break

3. Concept Statement: Last Post is a story driven adventure-platformer. A retired mailman has been tasked with delivering all the magic mail from a village on a floating island before a storm arrives and destroys the island. The player uses a shape-shifting magic mailbag and a dog-scaring bell to cross decaying rope bridges, avoid the harmful effects of rain and chase after a rival mailman. Careful planning and timing are required to complete the mission or else everything will be lost.

4.Description: Last Post is about completing a task no one else can. It’s the tension of a countdown and the quiet grace of doing the right thing for those counting on you. It’s not a power fantasy, it’s a competence fantasy. The fun isn’t in finding bigger toys, but in getting better at using the tools you already have.

Instead of a long list of abilities, there are two flexible tools used by the player. The mailbag can shrink so it can fit through narrow gaps and gates, or expand to safely carry large packages. Every delivery then becomes a short decision of “which state do I need right now?” The bicycle bell can be used to scare away aggressive dogs that block critical routes. However, it has a cooldown period so it must be used with purpose and not spammed over every obstacle. These two actions create the majority of the platforming in the game.

There is also the storm that drives all other elements of the game. As the storm closes in, rain increases (which can cause mail to be ruined if not protected) and the outer bridges start to shake and fray under the weight. This creates a visible “shake meter” which the player must interpret before deciding to cross. There is also a rival mailman who adds a human element to the game. The rival mailman will sometimes race the player to shared deliveries forcing brief and intense side trips.

The player controls the retired mailman. He is called back for one final route because someone has to complete it. There is no flashy villain. The “villain” is the storm and the clock. These are personified through the rival mailman’s subtle competition. The world consists of a series of islands connected by old rope bridges. The world is in its final hours before being remade by the storm.

What changes the player is not new abilities or equipment, but precision and confidence. These are earned with every delivery as he pushes out from the safety of the central post office towards the edges battered by the storm. His goal is simple and grounded: responsibility, not glory.

5. Competition: If there is a game that comes very close to following in Last Post’s footsteps then it has to be Mail Time. It shares the same feel of ‘deliver things around small islands’ and has already managed to satisfy the mailman adventure niche for many. Therefore Mail Time poses a genuine threat rather than some AAA title.

However Mail Time is inherently relaxed. There are no time limits or significant consequences, just a focus on the atmosphere. Last Post completely inverts this. There is a storm that steadily approaches and alters the world along the way. Unlike Mail Time the map is not static. Secondly the shrink/grow mechanic is employed as a puzzle/platforming tool and not just for the purpose of delivering goods. There is also a rival mail service creating tension and competition that is not really present in Mail Time. Finally the theme of ‘one final delivery before retirement’ has a different emotional impact to a completely relaxed game. Cozy but with actual stakes.

Mini Proposal 1. Title: Last Post 2. Tag line: One route left. One storm coming. One mailman who refuses to break 3.
