What I learned In this class
In this class, I learn a lot. I learned not only to read better in Spanish but how to use reading techniques that I usually use in English, but now implementing them into my Spanish reading. It also showed me how to express my opinions in Spanish when writing. I also got to learn new words that I’d never heard of, and how to say things more formally. The homework that was given to us on VHL also helped a lot. When we had to watch videos or read an article and then talk about it with our peers, I got a lot out of it. It was very different and I was also able to learn a lot from that. When we would meet and talk about it my classmates were able to help me with certain things and we all also saw how we sometimes interpreted the article differently which was interesting to hear about. Overall I liked the class a lot, even though it was a bit hard, I was able to learn a lot.
All these artifacts/sources I have provided above, allowed me to have good practice and to better my reading and writing in Spanish. Reflecting on all those activities shows how I have grown in writing in Spanish. In the first couple of assignments, I just answered each question without really giving background or an opinion. Then as we get more into the semester I start to show better writing habits and share more of what I have to say. When it comes to cultural understanding; I grew up in a Latino household. However, my parents barely finished school back in Peru. So writing and reading to them in their own language is also a bit hard. So we mostly just spoke in Spanish. So I went from speaking Spanish every day, to when I got to school none of the people I live with understood Spanish, it was hard to adapt at first but this class for sure helped. It is also such a beautiful thing to see my writing grow in a different langue.
