Non Verbal example of what we did:
One of our major assignments in this class was to translate some pages from Unamuno writing from Spanish to English. This assignment not only allowed us to use the grammar and Syntax skills we learned in class but also what we learned on how to translate. With this assignment, we were able to demonstrate what we’ve been striving for all semester long and implement our translation techniques.

Verbal example of what we did:
With this oral presentation, we were able to not only show the progression we have made with our writing skills through visuals but also demonstrate the progress that was made with how we speak in Spanish and how our thoughts can be shared in Spanish without a significant amount of pauses. We also shared what we learned in class and gave examples of how; what was taught in class helped us progress inside and outside the classroom.

My take away from this class
I have learned a lot in this class. Not only have I improved my grammatical skills, however, I also understand the different aspects that go into translating text from Spanish to English or English to Spanish. I have also learned that translating is not quite as simple as some may think it is. It is not just about focusing on the grammar and vocabulary from the text, however, also the context. I have learned that there are different types of translations; equivalence in translation, direct translation, ect. I have also learned that to properly translate, one has to understand that one word in English might translate to a certain word in Spanish but because of the context of the text that word may not always make sense, therefore, we would have to think of another word that would complement the sentence. This class has also taught me the issues in translating and interpreting that I should try to avoid. I was able to use this outside the classroom all semester long. I volunteered at a care clinic this semester and was able to apply what I learned in this class to my everyday life when I was there. As well as vice versa, I was able to learn new things at the clinic that I was able to implement in this class as well. Aside from expanding my knowledge on my Spanish grammar and translating skill, I was able to build on my oral, reading, and writing skills. Overall this class allowed me to exercise my thoughts in Spanish a lot more, instead of me repeating my old habits and writing all my thoughts down in English and then directly translating them into Spanish, word for word. I realized within doing that my text lost any if not all of the emotional aspect it had, as well as sometimes losing its original meaning. In the futures I know this class in particular will always be a great resources because no matter it be me teaching Spanish or me translating for my mom at home, I will always be using what I learned in this class on my day to day from now on.
