For this client service project I plan to address the problem of a lack of helpful information in the form of flyers or pamphlets available for degree seeking students once they have been admitted into Old Dominion University. The English department at the university has reached out and asked for such material to be created. With this project I hope to reach my intended audience of students seeking an English degree who are enrolled at ODU. With this project I aim to ensure that I meet the needs/values that I as an English major would want to see on something like this. That being a clear and organized list or chart of all the classes I need to take as an English major and all the classes I need for my specific concentration. Also, any contact information for staff in the English department that I may need.

I plan on creating a product that will enable degree seeking students to stay on top of the classes they are taking and the classes they need to take. I will do this throught the use of a chart on the back of the page that lsits all of the necessary classes for an English degree and the concentration under an english degree that I chose to focus on, in this case it is literatue. The product will also include the contact information for advisors in the English department.

I feel as if this design will be the most effective because the students who choose to use it will have all the classes they need to take for their major and concentration laid out in front of them. ODU currently has a system like this called degree works but there are some classes on there that haven’t been offered in years and some that are currently offered but not showing on the webpage. This flyer is more effective because it will be updated to reflect the current classes available at the university and it can be easily changed an re-printed when any classes are taken out or added in.

I plan to begin drafting this project immediately in order to ensure that I have ample time to perfect the layout I think will be most effective. I plan on having the draft and any edits needed done by the 21st of November. The project should be ready for usability testing on the 5th of December and the final product will be ready by the end of the semester.
