{"id":92,"date":"2018-10-25T19:14:19","date_gmt":"2018-10-25T19:14:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/eng333-draft\/?page_id=92"},"modified":"2018-12-09T03:34:45","modified_gmt":"2018-12-09T03:34:45","slug":"application-5","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/edmondsengl333\/application-5\/","title":{"rendered":"Feminist Application"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When utilizing the feminist perspective to analyze James Joyce\u2019s \u201cEveline\u201d one can see how the main character, Eveline, is stuck, unconsciously functioning under the oppression in which the society has set for woman by sticking under to household of her father rather than going off with her fiance. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When one views her situation from a feminist perspective, although she considered taking a stand for her freedom, she ultimately fell back into the power of the patriarchal structure. It seems that no matter if her final decision was to stay with her father or go with Frank, her future would\u2019ve still been dictated by a male presence. Eveline even stated herself that \u201cthe town will respect me when I\u2019m married\u201d, concluding that her only worth or value is her association\/connection to a man. Essentially, either way the story ends, Eveline ends up with a man. It appears that she is making her own decisions, but in reality, she did not have a choice.
