After reviewing the NICE Framework, I can see the vastness of working diversity in the field of cyber security. This diversity is probably what brings people like me, career changers, to the field. With such diversity always comes areas that an individual may have interest in and areas that are less interesting. The areas of least personal interest in the NICE Framework are customer service and technical support, legal advice and advocacy, and executive cyber leadership. However, the areas of most interest are digital forensics, risk management, and vulnerability assessment.

Having to deal with customer support is not an ideal career choice for me because I have already done that sort of job and I refuse to bring home, or be involved with, the sort of negative attitude that customers usually bring. Legal advice I am not interested in because I don’t wish to deal with lawyers and play word games on a regular basis. I also don’t feel comfortable at this point trying to go for an executive level career because I just don’t have to experience in the field needed to execute that level of a role properly and effectively. Perhaps in the future with some practical work experience I would be willing to take on that type of role. I just don’t wish to be the guy out of college in a management role who doesn’t really know how the field operates and does not have the respect of those who have done the field work for a long time.

Digital Forensics is interesting because of the puzzling aspect of the job. You are constantly trying to find or figure out how or why something happened. Helping to stop crime is also a rewarding aspect of the job as well. Risk Management is also along the same lines except you are trying to figure out and prevent future events. Vulnerability assessment careers are also interesting to inspect current systems and see how they measure up to current threats and weigh out the risks. The main thing with all three of these jobs is the assessment part. I feel like, at this point in my career transition, I would like to assess and evaluate as a possible future job.
