Explain how the principles of science relate to cybersecurity.
In a broad sense science is used to find the truth about where, when, what, why, how something is happening, and who is responsible for it. Different models, principles, and rationale are used when evaluating different aspects of the subject to best explain the truth. Cybersecurity is no exception to the truth-seeking process. Because cybersecurity involves human interaction, it is not only measured by hard sciences like computer science, electrical engineering, and mathematics it is also measured with the social sciences. This is to explain the human interactions that influence the choices, behaviors, and psychology of cybersecurity.
No single scientific approach in this field will give a total answer to the truth. We can grasp or scratch at the truth with an interdisciplinary approach and understanding. In an example of a cyber incident, we will want to know how it happened, why did it happen, what exactly happened, where it happened, when did it happen, and who was involved. Each of these questions will have a different approach depending on what specifically you are looking for but will not give you the whole truth. It is only when you answer all these questions objectively and integrate then answers can you generate something close to the whole truth.
