Globally, there has been an increase in cyber security threats and with that comes an increase in cost. The loss is not always financial or mensurable. Interestingly, during the 2020 pandemic with employers moving to remote work environments there was a 358% increase in malware attacks compared to 2019.
After researching the cybersecurity risks in the United States and the United Kingdom, I have found shared cybersecurity risks and differences. According to an article on AAG, the UK and USA have more victims of cyber crime per million internet users compared to other countries. Data for 2022, showed 43% of UK businesses were insured. UK businesses faced the most threats from phishing attacks, while businesses in the United States faced the most threats from ransomware. It is estimated that 60% of organizations data was encrypted in successful attacks. When it comes to cyber insurance, 50% of US organizations have full coverage. The US was the most targeted country for cyber attacks between July 2020 and June 2021. Nation-state hackers are the most serious threats for the United States. In 2020, the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) ranked the United States as first with a score of 100 index points and the United Kingdom came in second (tied with Saudi Arabia) with a score of 99.54. The GCI is an initiative of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) that measures the commitment of countries to cybersecurity.
