My name is Emma Sunshine Hood, I am a psychology major with a minor in&nbsp; addiction and treatment. My scholarly ambitions are to continue my education at Old Dominions\u2019 graduate school of psychology with a concentration in Health. If I am accepted into the graduate program, I plan to continue researching pedestrian behavior within their environment. During the summer of 2021, I was afforded an opportunity to work as an intern with the Research Experience for Undergraduate (REU) in Behavioral Science for Transportation Issues. The research project I designed and conducted was the among the first in current literature to investigate pedestrian behavior during local events and other variables (e.g., demographic and environmental factors). The experience gained with the REU altered my career goals and understanding of psychology. I learned psychology is a practical application to conceptualize behavior in the world. It is imperative for me to study social psychology to deepen my knowledge of individuals\u2019 social behavior in their environment. Upon my completion of the academic goals, I plan to work for the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration or the Virginia Department of Transportation. A career with either of these agencies will allow me to continue investigating transportation issues pedestrians and motorists face while using the roadways.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello!
