Why do I find interest in cybersecurity? I think that there are various things that attract me to this field. One of them being that this is something that I find interesting in the information technology field. I’ve never been huge into computers or technology but I’ve learned to love it. I was introduced into this field when I joined the U.S. Navy in 2017 and started learning about various fields in IT. I worked as an IT in the Navy for 4 years and learned about networking, cybersecurity, helpdesk amongst other things. The one thing that stood out to me the most though was cybersecurity. It was challenging, exciting to learn about network defense, and at the time seemed relatively easy to learn. Now that I’ve started to work and learn more in this area I couldn’t have been more wrong. The information that’s out there on cybersecurity is so vast and there’s so many different things to learn. That’s why I think this field attracted me, with so much evolving in the cybersecurity field, I feel you can never get bored because there’s always something new to learn, and with that evolving, it’s hard to get stagnant and stop learning. I find that part of it fun and exciting. Another reason I have come to like this field is because it’s growing rapidly. With most if not all companies moving their companies in the direction of technology, there’s always going to need to be some sort of security for those programs. That’s where this field comes in, there’s so many different facets of cybersecurity to learn that it makes it fun. I could go into penetration testing, I could go and work as an analyst, or even working to make cybersecurity plans. This field never gets boring and there’s never something you can’t learn about it and that’s what makes it so interesting to me.
