There are a few different majors that are related to cybersecurity, here are 4 of them:
Cybercrime– This relates to cybersecurity because it is the legal side to cybersecurity. In this major you’d learn all about the different laws and proceedings that come along with cybersecurity. You’d learn about cybercrime, digital forensics and laws regarding cybersecurity amongst other things. This could be really interesting for you if you are looking to get into to some form of law enforcement but also love technology.
Information Systems & Technology– This can relate to cybersecurity in the way that you get a broad learning experience that covers a lot about how different systems and technologies work. I do believe that this major is also business related so that the student can learn about how IT works in businesses as well. It also helps with learning about project management in which you could possibly be leading a project that focuses around cybersecurity.
Network Engineering– While working a cybersecurity job, you’ll work hand in hand with the networking team to solve issues on your network. To even begin learning about cybersecurity, you should have some requisite knowledge of networking. You need to understand a lot of the principles and rules regarding networking before you can start with securing that network. Networking also plays an important part of penetration testing. If one were to be penetration testing, they would need to understand how a network is setup and how it works, without this knowledge, it’d be impossible to do penetration testing.
Computer Science– This program is also more of a broad study but definitely highlights coding and some networking. Now for cybersecurity, you don’t necessarily have to know a programming language to be able to work in the field, but having knowledge of how coding works and understanding some of the commands will most definitely help you in understanding more of an attack perhaps. Again, understanding these base layer things about computers and networks will help you greatly with understanding cybersecurity and make it somewhat easier to learn and comprehend.
