Artifact 5:

This artifact came from module 7. I particularly liked this one, because I learned more about my own cognitive dissonance. The quote above perfectly reflected what I learned from the assignment, and I enjoyed creating the graphic on Canva. This reminded me that what I believe does not always line up with how I behave, specifically when it comes to decisions that only impact me personally.

Artifact 4

Artifact from module 14, relating to happiness levels. This picture always makes me smile, and is one of my niece and I on a beautiful, sunny, fall afternoon. My results from this assignment fell right in line with the average college student’s happiness levels (4.8). I have an overall happy demeanor, but can be easily overwhelmed, or unhappy, during stressful work/school weeks. This is when it’s apparent I’m not balancing my workload well. My happiness is typically linked to my satisfaction with my circumstances. Happiness and joy are related, but seem to be different things. Whereas happiness can come and go with the situation, joy is more permanent, and remains steadfast through trials. I may not always be happy during sad moments or stressful weeks, but hope beyond circumstances creates my joy.

Artifact 3

Module 10’s artifact related to social norms. Working with customers throughout the day, I was able to keep track of who was wearing a mask, how they were wearing it, and what the general feeling towards it was. I enjoyed the opportunity to observe this evolving social norm, and it was an interesting assignment. I was put in the situation 3 times that day to ask adults to put on their mask when they entered the store. While it may be becoming a social norm, there are several who refuse to participate, many because they don’t want to conform to, what they feel to be, yet another social norm.

Artifact 2

I chose this artifact, from module three, because it represents the notes, work, and research that went into this semester. This was the first artifact I archived, and involved doing hands-on research with the people around me. That’s one thing I loved about this class; it took me out of my comfort zone, and made me apply these things in the real world.

Artifact 1

This artifact was from module 4. What I learned from it seemed particularly relevant to today. In a time when we are battling fake news, civil unrest, and a world-wide pandemic, it’s easy to grow disheartened through popular news media. Flooded with constant reports on a dangerous, spreading virus, politics, etc., the media has a direct impact on our availability heuristics. It can feel like that’s all it is, because when that’s all we consume, it’s all that comes so readily and easily to the mind.
