SPAN 101

Exploring Culture

Having lived in Rota, Spain for two years, I was able to gain a basic foundational understanding of how to speak and understand basic Spanish. During the course, I asked questions pertaining to the cultures of different Spanish communities and reflected their differences to our culture in America.

Living abroad helped me gain a firsthand account of Spanish culture and interacting in Spanish in everyday life. I believe that had I not been given this opportunity, I would have struggled more in this course. I also took classes in high school for Spanish and a lot of the beginning half of the semester was a review of things that I had learned then.

Interpersonal Communication

I used Duolingo and Spanish Dictionary in companion with this course to help further advance my vocabulary and grammar.

Presentational Speaking

I created a PowerPoint presentation relating to my university and presented it to the class as part of an assignment.

Presentational Writing

I was required to draft short paragraphs in Spanish pertaining to myself, activities, and my schedule.

Interpretive Listening

In regards to listening, the professor often spoke in Spanish and students were required to listen and respond to questions as part of class exercises and quizzes.
