Exploring Culture
Expanding on knowledge gained during Spanish 101, during the course of Spanish 102 I was asked to explore cultural differences between numerous Latin American countries and the United States. In class, the professor and students often discussed the differences in the way individuals acted and how cultures reflected various topics.
Noteworthy assignments include cultural lessons on LingroLearning, where the assignments provided firsthand accounts of Spanish speakers from different countries and cultures and students were required to answer questions pertaining to it.
Overall, exploration of culture is one of the most important ways to understand Spanish. I am interested in the similarities and differences between English speaking cultures and Spanish speaking cultures throughout the course of the semester in Spanish 102.
Interpersonal Communication
Duolingo, Spanish Dictionary, and LingroLearning combined to further advance my Spanish vocabulary and grammar. New skills gained throughout the course of the semester include the use of reflexive and irreflexive verbs and past tense. Projects throughout the course of the semester include the designing of a flyer/pamphlet and a schedule/calender. Completing these types of assignments puts the Spanish language in a practical context.
Presentational Speaking
An oral examination was included in the course as a part of the final examination. Students also participated in in-class speaking activities that tested knowledge learned throughout the lessons.
Presentational Writing
A written examination was included in the course as a part of the final examination. Written tests, or projects, were a fundamental aspect of the course. These written assignments were graded and handed back to students for reflection on what areas of their foreign language skills required improvement. Different projects, including the flyer/pamphlet project, tested my comprehension on the lesson.
Interpretive Listening
The class instructor spoke often to me in Spanish and I was required to answer the question in Spanish. Assignments included in LingroLearning involved listening to Spanish speakers and answering questions on the context of the speech.
