Artifact Five

My favorite item I archived was the Enculturation activity. For this assignment, we were suppose to differentiate our own values from our parents by answering a series of statements. As a result, this assignment allowed me to realized that although parents may want the best for their child, they may not know what’s best for them. For example, a lover of art deciding to play basketball rather than studying art because he knows it would make his dad happy to see him follow his footsteps. Thus, I believe, we should live by our own rules and expectations, doing what we love instead of trying to make someone else happy.

Another one of my favorites was the Self-construal and Emotion assignment. For this assignment, we were told to reflect on five occasions in which we were happy, and decide if those episodes or situations we experienced were associated with “socially disengaged emotions” or “socially engaged emotions”. Thus, after a reflection on all five events, I learned I’m both socially disengaged and socially engaged. I’ve noticed, I’m mostly socially engaged when it comes to the whereabouts of my son. I depend on my significant other and my family members to make sure he is well taken care of, if I cant be there. However, I’m also socially disengaged when it comes to my income and occupation. There, I make sure I’m well taken care of.

Another assignment that had a huge impact on me, was Module’s Six assignment regarding the developmental process. Thus, for this assignment, we were instructed to write a brief summary about a significant experience from our childhood that helped us become who we are today. Therefore, I chose to write about the hardships I faced as a child growing up, in which sometimes we didn’t have lights, food, or water to drink. This chain of events caused me to take a look around me, and decide I did not want this life for myself. Instead, I wanted to go to college, graduate, see the world, and obtain a great job. Anything but struggle.

Another assignment, I loved was the Gender Stereotype in the workplace. For this assignment, we were given a list of occupations, and for each occupation, we were instructed to write if we thought of a man or woman was more qualified for the position. As a result, I learned I stereotype when it comes to certain occupations. For instance, for a babysitter or a make-up artist, I believe women are more qualified. However, a taxi cab driver or a mechanic, I feel, as though, a man is more qualified. Thus, although times are changing, when certain occupations come about, I still see certain genders dominant in certain area of expertise. However, although I see certain dominance, I’m still open to other genders working in other fields.

Another assignment I liked was Module’s Thirteen Happiness. For assignment, we were instructed to decide if our happiness was related to our physical health, or does our physical health lead us to happiness? Thus, after constant research and the answers of others, I believe it’s both. I believe your happiness can improve if you’re in great physical health. However, I also believe if you’re in love with your physical self, you will also be happy. Thus, I believe it’s up to the person’s actions and decisions, if he or she is willing to be happy.
