SCADA Mitigations

Critical Infrastructure Vulnerabilities

With technology evolving everyday cyber attacks are as well. One of the most vital pieces of our lives is making sure that critical infrastructures are safe and protected so that we could have certain things when we need it like water and electricity, but with that having vulnerabilities it can also be life threatening. With plenty of threats that the SCADA system has the two main threats are from incoming packets and people having access who shouldn’t. With people having access who should not have access they could shut off the power grid like what happened in Ukraine a few years ago, or even spike chlorine levels in water to try and harm everyone who uses it. Or with the infiltration of packets coming through that shouldn’t be there could have viruses that shut the whole system down.

SCADA Mitigation

SCADA applications have implemented certain aspects to it so these attacks will not happen. They have let only certain higher level people have access to certain data along with having logs for all of the stuff that goes through it. Alarm systems in case anything does come into place has also been implemented. What they could use as well with helping with the packets is using a firewall to sniff out any bad packets. Along with two-factor authentication for people gaining access when they should not.
