During the conference,
beginning of the event, I got to speak a little bit with the president of CS2A, Jada, and I had some questions for her regarding what I should be using to practice with to get some more help since I am very new to cybersecurity. Majority of the CTF questions were quite difficult for me because I have never used any sort of virtual box without having a list of commands next to me, and I was not familiar with some of the tools they used. I was particularly stuck on the ones that had pictures linked, and this is something that I would like to work on. I learned a lot of valuable information form the speakers, including where I need to guide my learning outside of school. I was not sure where I should start for practice on programs really until I went to this event and got to talk to some people, so this was a huge help for me. I honestly expected this event to be a lot more boring and harder, as far as the CTF, than it actually was. Of course, the CTF questions that I did not answer were very hard for me, but there were actually some easy ones that I actually solved. I also really enjoyed the speakers talks and being able to work with my peers on the CTF and have meaningful discussions.

Career Connections:

At this career event, I learned about valuable tips to improve my resume, as well as many upcoming career events to look out for. I got to talk with a cybersecurity employer who gave me a list of certifications that I can work on and I received some information about ODU’s information systems program. I also received information about the career connections events that are coming up, where I can join a group and go to different companies who give you an inside look into an intern’s or employee’s day and company functions. This experience was very valuable and allowed me to network with employers.

Cybersecurity Everywhere Presentation

Cybersecurity_Everywhere_Presentation

Cyber Ops event: Cyber Ops was a very rewarding and fun experience all together.
