In this interview, I talked to Haley Hammond who is a Labor and Delivery nurse and works at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. She graduated in 2021 from Liberty University with a Bachelor of Science in nursing. Throughout the interview, we talked about what sparked her interest in the medical field, specifically nursing, and the process she went through to get to where she is now. She explained how every shift is different from the others, so she never really knows what to expect until the shift begins. We also discussed the topic of sustainability and what her specific hospital does to enable such practices. She mentioned how they are constantly having to make their own baby bands because they run out so fast of the actual product. Another thing she mentioned is that it can be hard to be sustainable in the health field since you cannot reuse a lot of the materials more than once due to safety and cleanliness. Additionally, Haley mentioned that she loves her career because it encompasses a lot of different types of nurses in one area. She said she never expected that she would have some of the roles and responsibilities that she has today. Something that I learned from this interview is that you should not predict what your career will be like based off of other people. I learned this because Haley mentioned how she always thought her career would be a certain way because of what other people have said, but she said you never know what your path will look like. She mentioned how you should not have extremely high expectations because you could always have a different path than others in the same field.
