Reflection

The practice labs led to the achievement of at least the two competencies listed below.

GEH 2- Evaluate risks posed by environmental health hazards using risk assessment methods

  • This competency can be shown through the successful completion of the practice lab included in MPH 632: Environmental and Occupational Health Risk Assessment. Throughout the assignment, I needed to evaluate risks posed by potential exposure to methyl isocyanate. I utilized risk assessment methods learned over the span of the program, especially during this course, to successful evaluate the health hazards involved in this assignment. Being able to utilize these skills during a real world scenario aided my confidence and knowledge of the subject matter.

GEH 3 – Recommend approaches for recognizing, preventing, controlling, and remediating environmental health hazards

  • This competency is observed by my demonstrated ability to recognize, prevent, control, and recommendations for remediating lead poisoning in Happy Town, USA. The practice lab completed during MPH 613: Environment, Society, and Health, allowed me to accomplish this competency. Understanding how to alleviate environmental health hazards using these principles has aided my problem solving skills for a variety of issues I come across.
