IDS 493

Introduction

Cyber security has taught me a lot within my three years of pursuing the degree. I can describe my experience with the program as very eye-opening, interesting, technologically, sometimes difficult and also knowledgeable. Furthermore, there have been many skills that I have acquired from the courses I have taken so far on this program. IT/CYSE 200T taught me that critical infrastructure is a term used to describe infrastructure, systems and assets that are essential for the society and economy. In CYSE 300,  I gained the knowledge that SSO means Single Sign On, which is defined as a process whereby users can access multiple accounts or systems using only one username and password.

Program Reflection:

When I reflect on the program overall, it has given me a little insight on what Cyber security is about, because at first I had no knowledge whatsoever. Cyber security is truly a broad topic. Over the course of my time at ODU I have learned what it is truly about. My most valuable learning experience is knowing what I truly want to do within the program after graduating. One difficult obstacle that I encountered during my learning experiences has to do with Programming. It is something that I have no experience in, so it was very difficult to get used to it. In addition, I didn’t receive the help I needed initially when I started the program so it proved to be a difficult task for me sometimes. To address this issue I tried to confide in some classmates and people who already had knowledge about programming and already took it in high school, and also had the basic training as well as the help they needed to be able to accomplish tasks. Currently, I’m still in the program but the courses have helped me understand what is ahead of me or my future in cyber security.

IDS 493 Reflection

IDS 493 can be described as a course that helps students build their image as a cyber security major. The most valuable or interesting concept I learned during the course was the presentation of an individual within the course. Previously, I did not know about how significant it is to build your image as a cyber security major to be able to find or attract an employer. Furthermore, I think I did particularly well with my overall image of the website. It gives the viewer a sense of identity and personality. What I’m most proud of is the design and where I placed everything within the website. In addition the front page, which gives a little background on myself and my goals. Personally, I didn’t face any big obstacles within the course; it just gave me more of an insight on what I need to do to be able to carry myself the way I need to carry myself within this program. My previous courses gave me an experience that I was able to incorporate within my website, without these courses my portfolio would be empty.

Conclusion

Overall, each course that I have taken within this program has made me more knowledgeable and has also paved a pathway for my future in Cyber security. Even though there are difficulties sometimes, it still helps me with my problem solving skills within the career choice. Furthermore, I plan to learn everything I can while I’m at ODU and graduate with confidence in what I have learnt throughout my four years.
