IT 201

COURSE DESCRIPTION

An introduction to the major hardware and software components of modern information systems. Topics include introduction to the history of computers, numbering systems conversion, system and application software, networks and internet.

An assignment that stood out to me in this course was when we were tasked to discuss the important role of networks and communication devices in my everyday life. In addition, discuss in detail how networks and communication devices have changed, improved, and in some ways not improved your day to day life.

On this assignment, I was able to talk about my everyday use of networks and communication. Furthermore, it made me realize how much I have grown to depend on technology but this is something that can’t be helped in this modern day. In the future, I plan to know more about this everyday network and communication devices that I use. For example, their history, mechanics, manufacturing and things of that nature.

Below is my artifact, which shows my discussion on the topic of network and communication in my everyday life.

NETWORK AND COMMUNICATION DEVICES

Network and communication have come a very long way. In this modern age, it plays a significant role in our survival. Furthermore, networks are the basis on which to run many companies, to address emergencies, to stay informed, and to support education, and many more. In addition, the Internet is the largest collection of  networks in the world. Back in the day, one couldn’t even tell who was on the phone until they had answered the call but now, we can see who is calling and even where they are calling from. Personally, it is how I keep in touch with family and friends, how I’m able to do my school work, how I’m able to keep a social life and even how I stay updated with the world as a whole. There are so many different types of networks and communication devices I use, but the two significant ones are my phone and my PC. Furthermore, it has improved my life by making things easier and accessible with a touch of a screen. However, It has also not improved my ability to not be largely dependent on it. Periodically, I try to stay away from my devices to give myself a break but as a college student it has been very difficult because it is your life line.
