As we all know, the way we keep up with sports has changed over the years and continues to do so as the years go by. Many years ago, the only way to receive results from sports was to attend the game in person or hear from word of mouth. Over the years this then changed to sports being talked about in the newspaper, brodcasted on the radio, and so on as the years have gone by. For myself, I usually consume most of my sports news and information through social media and being around my friends who also keep up with sports. TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, Youtube, and many other social media apps have pages specifically dedicated to sports and have a goal of being the best at keeping everyone up to date with the most honest and latest sports information. Five years ago, I was consuming sports in a very similar way as I do now just less. Since social media was still very popular for young people five years ago, this is what most of my generation has used to keep up with sports. In the next five years, I believe people will continue to use social media as their media consumption diet. Although, I believe this, I do think there will be a significant increase in accounts dedicated specifically to certain sports and specific teams as well. Along with more pages on social media being created, I also believe that there will be an increase in apps such as ESPN and Bleacher Report to spread the word. There are many positives and negatives to the consumption of sports in todays world. One major change that I would make would be to decrease the impact of social media on sports. From the beginning, sports were said to be about having fun and doing what you enjoy while benefitting your health at the same time. These days social media will bring personal issues to light on athletes and certain teams. I would make an attempt to decrease the use of social media in sports communication and see more people getting together with friends and families to watch these games.
