The poem Love Calls Us to the Things of this World is a story about a man waking up and taking in the sights and sounds around him. The fantastical and dreamlike imagery at the start of the poem is meant to convey him waking up and entering the real world.
Stories plays and poems all have their own limitations when it comes to storytelling, although this doesn’t mean that they are bad. Plays are oftentimes longer than poems, and it can take longer to get to the climax of the story. If someone doesn’t like the beginning of a play they might just stop reading and never finish. Plays are also meant to be acted out, so reading a play and watching a Proformance may be two completely different experiences.
Stories can be told in any medium, such as orally or through writing, and each medium has its own strengths and weaknesses. A story told orally with no writing can be changed or lost over time, while a story told through writing can be difficult to read to future generations due to the changing of language and culture.
Poetry is sometimes ignored simply because of its genre, and poems are oftentimes short, so if your someone who likes a longer more drawn-out story, then you most likely won’t go out of your way to read poetry. Not to mention, telling a story in a few words can sometime be difficult if you are not skilled in doing so. This doesn’t make poetry as a medium bad, it’s just something that can affect how people interact with it.
