R & D #2

The three companies that I will be using are CrowdStrikeLinks to an external site., ZscalerLinks to an external site. and GoGuardianLinks to an external site.. These all relate to technology and cybersecurity, which is my major. The links are included in the companies’ names.

Firstly, CrowdStrike’s color scheme surprised me. I expected mostly cool colors like blue and white to be associated with technology, but CrowdStrike’s website is white, red and black. The sites quality is okay, and most of the important links are shown in the corner right as you enter the website. That being said, there are a few special effects that I think make the site look less professional in my opinion. It isn’t exactly hard to read, but it may drive away certain customers. In the corner there are language options, which are always important to have for a large website. As for accommodation of disabilities, while I could be missing something, I didn’t immediately see anything that might help with disabilities, such as text to speech. The phrasing of the links is concise and straightforward, which is good for readers who may not know cybersecurity terminology.

Zscaler’s color scheme was a bit more predictable, as it was dark blue and white for the most part. There were also fewer moving pictures and effects, which in my opinion makes the site look more professional. In my opinion, this site has better clarity than CrowdStrike because it has less colors, and instead of a pure black background the background of Zscaler, while still dark, isn’t quite as overbearing. Two points against Zscaler however, I didn’t immediately see any language or disability options. The phrasing of the links was okay though.

The GoGuardian website is a bit different, as they are not solely a cybersecurity company, they also focus on education. I think the website itself shows this fairly well, as it talks about classroom engagement and shows an image of two children in school. The color scheme of this website is mostly blue and white, with some beige. The quality of the website is okay, and the placement of the links makes sense. Unfortunately, I didn’t see any language or disability options, which seems to be a pattern for these sites.

I personally think Zscaler’s looks the most effective, but I will admit that it is mostly personal opinion. The layout of this site seems to be more ‘cyber’ oriented than ‘security’ oriented.

I am not a teacher, so I don’t need GoGuardian, but I think the website itself is very nice and looks professional and on-brand for what they’re trying to sell. Only a glance at the site will tell you that it is meant for teachers in an educational setting.

I think CrowdStrike’s website looks a bit aggressive and less professional than the previous two, but it isn’t bad, and it’s the only website (from what I can tell) that had any sort of language option. Unlike Zscaler, it seems to be mainly showcasing the ‘security’ of their company rather than the ‘cyber.
