Abstract
The modern-day world is increasingly reliant on technology, from everyday affairs to holding government documents. This has made people from across the globe increasingly connected with each other, but it also makes us more vulnerable, especially to cyber-attacks. No longer do you only need to worry about crime from people around you, but also from across the world. This review is studying the trends of cyber-attacks, which can prepare both companies and governments alike for the event of a cyber-attack.
Introduction
Almost every developed nation has a heavy reliance on technology. This has paved the way for many people to have a better life, and opened up opportunities for education and employment to those who would otherwise not have those options. It has made people learn about other cultures and helped people connect with others they would have never met otherwise. Despite this, there are many dangers present on the internet. Most governments use cyberspace to hold information, and a hacker could steal precious documents from anywhere on earth. Even worse, it is especially difficult to prosecute a cybercriminal, as many do not leave enough evidence to make a conviction, and many who go after large corporations and government facilities may not even be from the same country.
This means that learning how to prevent and prepare for a cyber-attack is crucial for any large business or organization. One of the best ways to prepare for such an attack is to know your enemy, and being able to recognize trends in cybercrime is a part of that.
Methods
This research paper goes over some of the most common terminology used in the field of cyber security and tells the reader of some strengths and weaknesses of certain areas of cybersecurity. This can help people to make an informed decision about what areas of cyber security to invest in for their business or organization. The review does not specify which area is best, but instead gives the reader an idea of the many ways cyber security can be used to protect valuable resources.
Discussion
While I believe that this review is important for many reasons, I feel like the writers should have put more focus on the trends of cyber-attacks. While the paper is meant to be a review, it is also meant to be a research paper, and there wasn’t much research involved in the text. The paper simply laid out what many people in the cyber security field already knew about, without adding much to the conversation. Because of this, there aren’t really any ‘results’ in this paper, which is disappointing.
Conclusion
This review paper is mostly about the different areas of cyber security and cybercrime, and mostly focuses on what the terms mean and how they interact with one another. There wasn’t as much focus on research and trends as I was expecting, though the paper is still valuable as it talks about some of the important ways cyber security affects modern day laws and policies.
