Multimodal Project: Proposal

Introduction

With a record number of Americans continuing to quit their jobs during the pandemic, and myself being one. I have chosen to focus this multimodal topic on The Great Resignation. I have found that this controversial issue can be approached utilizing various rhetoric strategies that target specific audiences. Considering the rapid pace and powers of technology, I plan to use a video medium enhanced by a vlog genre to partner on a YouTube platform. My project genre fits the rhetorical situation because it allows an author to connect with the target audience more intimately. Using the popularity of social media, I intend to persuade personal influence that transitions viewers into loyal followers by reflecting photos, video, and text within my vlog.

Body

The Problem

The purpose of the vlog is to focus on the problems contributing to The Great Resignation. I will briefly discuss my argument of the various reasons why I feel people are leaving their jobs during a pandemic crisis. In addition, I will also include my testimony as to why I too recently resigned from the Federal Government. My primary claim will convey the problem and offer some solutions. Furthermore, my project’s goal is not to entertain but to be informational. My primary target audience will be the working class ranging from blue-collar to corporate business professionals and entrepreneurs. The secondary audience will be the business owners, CEOs, stakeholders, family members, friends, and colleagues who desire to resign or have. No matter who is most likely to watch, the vlog will be connective as the pandemic has impacted the entire world, the working class, and their families to some degree. Therefore, both the primary and secondary audience’s opinions are valuable.

Project Plan

The design of my project will rely heavily on pairing creative licensed commons videos and photos with text. Thus, supporting and proving my argument while integrating some of my research. My research will consist of fact-checking on evidence of the Great Resignation, but hard facts will not be my focus. Instead, I plan to use the vlog genre as a gateway to connect and interact more intimately with the viewers and trigger emotion. I plan to utilize four essential technology elements to produce this introductory vlog: camera, audio, natural lighting, and a post-production application. My smartphone has an excellent camera for capturing video and a decent mic to produce quality sound. In addition, I will be sure to vlog when the natural lighting is balanced to avoid mixed lighting situations. The production setup will be next to a window, and I plan to use a reflector to prevent possible shadowing. I will create by utilizing the Adobe Rush Premiere media application as it will be used for post-production purposes like editing, sharing, and storage. I have found Adobe Rush to be user-friendly, especially for beginners. Whether your videos are stored on a smartphone or PC, it is easy to use across all devices. In addition, it has a built-in camera function that allows users to take pro-quality videos from a mobile device. Adobe is an excellent tool as it also allows you to upload directly from your Dropbox and more. Furthermore, this video tool offers basic features for free and provides a free test trial with the option to purchase at a student discount rate of $19.99/month. I decided to buy the student package because Adobe Rush has been beneficial and has transformed how I can create content for this class and others. Lastly, Adobe allows me to share my vlog directly to the social media platform, YouTube, which will enable me to gain access to a public digital audience.

Justification

As previously mentioned, I will include some fact-checking from my previous research posted in my blogs from weeks 4-6 to help support my argument. However, the goal is to connect with audiences and trigger emotions through a more intimate perspective that a vlog provides. A vlog is an appropriate and effective genre to communicate my argument to viewers. This speech event will allow me to personally convey my message and extend my connective reach to a wide variety of audiences via YouTube. The audience’s expectations will be met and exceeded through my intimate setting, and as the main character, I plan to communicate utilizing a relatable personal narrative structure. As the main character, the audience can interact and connect by directly seeing and hearing my engagement. I typically find people who wish to convey a message more credible when I know who they are, hear their voice, observe their body language, etc. Considering all of this and through prior weeks of rhetorical analysis, this mode of choice will be helpful and exciting to viewers.

Production Tools

I need to design a video blog and can use the Adobe Rush Premiere application to accomplish this task. Adobe Rush is a tool that usually makes a beginner’s video look like a pro-quality production. In addition, this Adobe tool is user-friendly. It offers editing, shooting, and sharing capabilities for videos anywhere. Furthermore, Adobe Rush is available online and offers its users a variety of platform options to upload to. Platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, to name a few. Users only need a smartphone, tablet, or PC to start designing with this tool which allows you to upload directly from within the tool. However, the user must have one of the previously mentioned device assets to record into initially. Indeed, this tool’s features are beneficial for vlog professionals and enthusiasts like me. It is beginner-friendly and offers free tutorials that teach users how to take full advantage of the tool’s enhancement features that will present a vlog as a pro-quality production for public viewers.
