Game-based Assessment Activity

Game Based Activity

This activity will serve as an assessment on the students skills on the topic of foodways and specifically on interacting in English in a restaurant. This is a wonderful informal way to assess students as well as fostering a competitive and healthy classroom environment where students are engaged.

Students will be able to read an English menu, order from it, and interact with restaurant staff in a meaningful way.

Students will be split into groups of about 4-6 depending on class size

Groups will take turns sitting down in a mock restaurant with menus in front of them (taken from a real restaurant)

Kahoot game will ask questions relevant to foodways and restaurant atmosphere such as

In an american restaurant the check usually brought to you and you don’t have to ask (TRUE/FALSE)

Which of the following are listed as appetizers on the menu?

What soda/fountain drinks are available at the restaurant

The group that scores the highest gets +5 points extra credit to next assessment or free homework pass.

This game will tell the teacher how capable students are at engaging in a restaurant setting and tell the teacher (based on Kahoot scores) where students need to improve upon.

Using a rubric, the teacher can see where students need to improve create a and where they did well in ordering food and reading a menu.

If the teacher feels like students need improvement, they can do a review specifically on the areas thats students are struggling in.
