In order to further assess the content of unit 3 of Ventures1 textbook, I designed a vocabulary game. It will be a device for a formative and informal assessment. Primarily this is because vocabulary is building block for learning more advanced skills such as forming sentences and questions and feedback will be immediate as the game progresses with teacher commenting with correct answer after each student reveals their answers. The learning objectives for this activity are that students will be able to write and verbalize the family members vocabulary words that corresponds with the definition given to the students.
Each student will be given list of the family members vocabulary words and a whiteboard. The teacher will then write dashes on chalkboard for each letter of vocabulary word and give hint of the word in the form of question. For example, teacher will state, “who is your mother’s sister?” and then each student will be given 30 seconds to write the answer on whiteboard. When the time has expired, the teacher calls on a student to reveal their answer spelling out their answer aloud. After all vocabulary words are used then the game will end. After the game this could be helpful in students being able to fill out a family tree with names of people in their own family.
This game will evaluate whether students understand the meaning of each vocabulary word and able to spell and verbalize each one. This corresponds with unit goals to identify family members listed at beginning of the unit.
