Just from reading chapter 1 of DD I learned so much about what is actually considered a document. In short, a document can be almost anything as long it is communicating a message and giving the user the necessary information.

The image above was on my Instagram feed and I believe it is a document. This was an Instagram post by my favorite band STARSET and I think it meets the requirements of being a document. For starters, this document is advertising their acoustic event tour. It gives all of the necessary information to the user such as dates, event locations, and finally where to purchase tickets in the bottom right corner.

From an emotional (ethos) standpoint from the author, their feeling that they may be communicating could be that they want the users to join them for these events. On the other side of this is the user’s feelings or the (pathos). A user could have multiple reactions to this document. Mine for example was “This event looks like so much fun! I wish I could go!” While other users may ignore the document completely or go to the starsetonline website and purchase tickets for themselves.

In the end, I learned a lot from chapter 1 of DD. I learned what a document was, how documents have changed over time, and how they are engrained in everyday life.
