“Dear Fellow Monarchs” – Letter to Myself

April 27, 2025

To My Future Self,

As I reflect on this past year at ODU, I’m filled with gratitude for the experiences that have shaped me both personally and academically. It’s been a year of growth, challenges, and valuable lessons, especially as I pursue my goal of becoming a physical therapist.

This semester, I faced the usual hurdles of balancing coursework, clinical hours, and personal life. There were times when the demands felt overwhelming, but I learned the importance of time management and prioritization. Utilizing planners and setting specific goals helped me stay organized. Remember, seeking help from professors and peers is crucial, and collaboration can lead to deeper understanding and support.

Being involved in my church community has been a significant source of strength for me. My relationships there have provided a sense of belonging and purpose. Engaging in church activities has enriched my spiritual life and helped me develop leadership skills that will be valuable in my future career as a physical therapist. Don’t forget to nurture these relationships; they are essential for your emotional well-being.

My relationship with my girlfriend has also been a highlight of this year. We’ve supported each other through the ups and downs of college life, and our bond has grown stronger as a result. Make sure to prioritize this relationship; open communication and shared experiences are key to maintaining a healthy partnership. Balance your time between studies and quality moments together; it’s important for both of you.

As you look ahead to the next academic year, set concrete goals for yourself. Aim to excel in your physical therapy courses while also finding time for self-care and relaxation. Consider joining a club related to physical therapy or health sciences to expand your network and gain practical insights. Remember to take breaks and practice mindfulness; your mental health is just as important as your academic success.

Lastly, celebrate your achievements, no matter how small. Each step forward is a testament to your hard work and determination. Embrace the journey, stay curious, and don’t be afraid to take risks. College is a time for exploration and self-discovery, and you’re on the right path. I hope this letter serves as a reminder of the lessons learned and the growth achieved. Keep pushing forward, and remember that you have a strong support system in your church community and your relationship. You’ve got this!

With encouragement,
