I think the four major ethical issues that arises when storing electronic information about individuals are privacy, property, accessibility and accuracy. Privacy to me is the major one, when saving a person information electronically, guaranteeing that their privacy is not invaded is very crucial to protect that persons identity and any sensitive information related to them that is listed as information electronically. Failure to protect or guarantee the privacy of the information of the person that is store could lead to a lot of problems, which may include customer confidence in the agency storing the data, which could potentially lead to financial problems for that agency as well. The second problem is with ownership (property) though the information about another person is stored electronically, there has to be a determination of who’s property it is. Which decides who can decide what can be done with that information or who’s authorization is needed to use that information in any way. Without this determination there can be a lot of uncertainties, which can easily lead to a lot of problems both for the company storing he information and the person the information is about. For instance, if a sign up for a facebook but don’t read the fine print that Facebook is the owner of whatever information I provide them and they are able to do as the please with it including selling my information for advertisement purposes . I will be misled that I’m still in control of my information and as a result will be providing information that I would not provide if I was aware that whatever information I give to facebook now becomes facebook’s property and no longer mine. Accessibility is ensuring that only the right or authorized people can access the stored information to mitigate information being exposed to unauthorized personnel. Ensuring store information is only accessible to the right party can also be challenge to maintain. Accuracy of information being stored is also very important because, whatever the information is being used for can impact the person the information is about negatively. For instance, when a credit bureaus stored inaccurate information of a person and they are not able to get a loan because of the inaccurate information that was stored.
