SELF EVALUATION

In regard to success, I feel as though I accomplished everything I wanted in this course. On a creativity level, I feel as though I did outstanding. All ideas came originally from me, and I take a lot of pride in the fact that I was able to orchestrate some pretty well-written pieces from start to finish. However, I do feel as though editing and revising could have saved my grade by at least one or two points. This isn’t something I really did, I usually would just go through my work and fix it, after it was already turned in. I have heard “read over your work” from every teacher this semester so that is definitely something that I will do going forward.

I learned alot about writing this course. This is my first college class that has involved multiple papers, but I do feel like it has better suited me as a writer. I feel as though I have learned multiple writing strategies to make my writing stronger. For example, learning to analyze which sources are high quality, and what message they are trying to convey. I also learned to argue both points of views, as this makes you seem knowledgeable, and your arguments stronger. As for my final portfolio, I do feel as though it was a learning experience for me. I had never worked with this software before, and I feel like I probably should have managed my time better, so that I could become more familiar with the website, and make it more visually appealing. Again, I feel like I did this best, with the knowledge that I did have.

Reading throughout this course was definitely something that I found beneficial. When I did read, and actually understood what I was reading, I found that I did better on my writing. For example, I thoroughly read for my visual analysis. On this paper, I scored well, and hit majority, if not all of the points that I needed to hit. However, on my evaluation project, I didn’t necessarily read to soak in the information like I did on my visual analysis, and it showed in the feedback that I received.

The most important thing that I learned from this course that can help me with future reading and writing assignments, is to always allow myself enough time to go over things again, and again. This is important because I learned not to just write something and turn it in the same day. I should write an assignment, and maybe come back a day or two later to see what I should add, or take away, since what I intended to say, isn’t so fresh on my mind. This will help me make sure everything is clear, for both me as the creator, and the audience that I have written the piece for. This also applies to my reading. I will also like to make sure I have the write environment to read, and comprehend and process the information.

My favorite piece that I wrote this semester was my visual analysis. The topic was very close to my heart. Being a criminal justice major has opened my eyes to the true dangers and repercussions of drinking and driving, and I want to bring light to this issue for others as well. My least favorite piece was the evaluation essay. This was probably my least favorite because I feel like I did a horrible job with this assignment. I managed my time poorly and felt as though I had to rush. Overall, all writings were enjoyable in some way, and tested my thinking.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this course, and always wonder what it would be like if I could have met my teacher and classmates in person. This course was challenging, but never felt overwhelming and too heavy. I will use my digital portfolio as a place to reflect on my growth as a writer, and also insert it in my other digital portfolio, so that places I apply, can see my writing ability, and also learn more about me as well.
