As part of our Entrepreneurship In Cybersecurity CYSE 494 course at Old Dominion University we are assigned a group project where we create a potential innovation, technology, product or service and we follow the entrepreneurial process to bring that idea to investors.  In the various modules we have learned various topics such as creating a business model,  how to apply design thinking to problem solving, planning and identifying opportunities, ethics, financial statements and budgeting, ethical issues, legal structures, marketing, and building off of failures.

Our group decided we would create a fictional cybersecurity consulting group called Big Blue Cybersecurity Consulting (BBCC) that would provide four core services.  The first service is employee training in cybersecurity to identify, prevent, and respond to cyberattacks like phishing.  The second is vulnerability assessments to systematically review client computer infrastructure for vulnerabilities that attackers can take advantage of, and close them before they are victimized.  The third is secure network configuration where we help your organization create a secure computer network infrastructure from day one and help you prevent attacks while using the most up to date technology.  And the fourth and final is network monitoring where we use event logging and auditing as well as security information and event management (SEIM) software to watch your computer networks for signs of attack, intrusion, or confidential data leaving your network.

Here we apply what we learned from our modules to create a pitch for our idea, Big Blue Cybersecurity Consulting.  Through working together in a group we learned our customers were system’s administrators, chief information officers, and all employees managing computer networks at a strategic and planning level.  All those customers have the same problem with cybersecurity.  Mainly that increasing cybersecurity is expensive and requires teams of skilled people, that cybersecurity is complicated and has a changing landscape for laws regulations and best practices, and that cybersecurity cannot be done alone but is best handled by technicians who have industry knowledge and know where to turn to for help if they need it.   Our consulting firm helps take that large and complex problem of cybersecurity and creates services that address our clients needs.   And as costs of ransomware and cyberattacks continue to reach the billions of dollars, and legal penalties put organizations out of business, we feel that our customers cannot afford to be complacent with their cybersecurity, our customers need Big Blue Cybersecurity Consulting.

Summary of problem

Companies have a problem, as they rapidly grow they cant find of afford to increase their IT departments.  They worry that they will be the next victim in the headlines of a cyberattack or ransomware.  Creating a cybersecurity team takes time and money and many system administrators or CISO’s are already busy under a mountain of problems.  What can they do to protect their organizations and tto increase their cybersecurity?

BBCC is a new cybersecurity consultant firm in Hampton roads that has cybersecurity experts waiting to help.  We offer a range of cybersecurity services like employee education, vulnerability assessments, secure network configuration, and network monitoring and we are ready to fill the gap.  We want to help organizations with our technical expertise, industry experience, and knowledge of regulations to achieve the highest security posture they can and protect themselves and our communities.
