Journal 14: 11 Illegal Online Activities

There are many cyber crimes are they can be very big or very small, but they are crimes, nonetheless. Some of these illegal deeds people have done in their past unknowingly and they probably didn’t realize the seriousness of their actions. Eleven of these activities are using unofficial streaming services, using torrent services, using copyrighted images, sharing passwords (addresses, photos, or others), bullying (trolling), recording a VoIP call without consent, faking one’s identity online, using other people’s internet networks, collecting information about children, extracting audio from YouTube, and illegal internet searches. Bullying or trolling I would consider one of the five worst activities on this list. The effects on the victim may include depression, anger, and even suicide. Bullying of any kind should not be tolerated. Recording a VoIP call without the other person’s consent would be in my top five as well. This recording can be used to embarrass someone, which ties into the bullying mentioned above. Faking your identity has to be in the worst five things included in the article. It can be used to “catfish” someone into sending the offender money, naked pics, etc., while also being leveraged to keep the victim acting accordingly or risk being exposed (bullying). Collecting information about people younger than thirteen has to be one of the scummiest things someone can do online. I would imagine this is usually linked to pedophiles, who are deplorable scum. Illegal searches online would round out my top five worst deeds listed in the article. This can range from drugs and guns to child pornography. All these acts are bad, and people should be better educated to not commit them.
