Old Dominion’s University Policy 3506 relates to cybersecurity in a multitude of ways. An ODU email given to an employee, researcher, students, etc. has the appropriate security measures in place, such as the Midas ID and passwords, as well as the University Identification Number (UIN) being needed in accessing the user’s email and other various software permitted to be used by Old Dominion University. The policy also includes using email for only official university business and using generally formal online etiquette when sending messages. Another thing the policy states is that the content of the message (corrupt files, phishing, NSFW) is held responsible by the sender of that message. The contents of this policy are to avoid hacking, phishing, malware, and any other type of cyber-attack that could compromise the university’s network. All of these precautions mentioned in University Policy 3506 are necessary to maintain safe electronic communications and university cyber systems.
