- What are the connections between the disciplines addressing entrepreneurship at ODU?
The connections between the disciplines addressing entrepreneurship at ODU are that this class along with other cybersecurity classes that I have taken can be used and applied to future opportunities. Entrepreneurship at ODU allows us to still practice hands-on skills in an innovative way by having us come up with our own ideas and business plan. The cybersecurity degree program at ODU offers entrepreneurship as an alternative to the internship to explore a different outlook on cybersecurity. It allows for you to be more creative than just completing an internship at a company.
- Is entrepreneurship an art or science?
I think that entrepreneurship is both an art and a science. When it comes to art, entrepreneurship allows you to express yourself and your creativity by coming up with your own ideas. Creating your own company requires having a vision, intuition, creativity and an imagination. This is followed by having the passion and courage that your vision will come to light. The whole point of being an entrepreneur is to come up with something that has not been done before while also showcasing themselves in their work as well just like artists. Furthermore, entrepreneurship relates to science in the sense that you have to be smart in terms of having facts and data to back up any business decisions that you may have. Also, it is important to have a plan for your actions and how you are going to achieve those goals. Looking ahead will help you be aware of potential risks that could happen in case something goes wrong.
- How is failure good?
Failure is good because it allows you to learn from mistakes. It teaches you how to grow and come back stronger than before. You can evaluate your mistakes, so that you do not make the same mistake again. If we do not fail, we will never know how to persevere and go after the things that we want. Success is great, but we can’t always win every time. Failure allows us to stay humble because then we know that there is a risk in everything we do in life.
- What have I learned from failing?
I have learned how to be resilient and how to keep going after the things that I want to achieve. Failure allows for me to learn from my mistakes and to become a better person because of it. Also, I have learned to not be so hard on myself and to give myself grace because I am not going to win at everything in life. Failure allows for me to grow and to work harder than I did before.
- What ethical issues might arise related to what I am working on?
One ethical issue might arise is having a lack of infrastructure. Since entrepreneurs are not like big corporations, they lack the amount of people to delegate tasks. Another is the pressure to achieve goals by looking for shortcuts or fast track methods to achieve success. Furthermore, entrepreneurs have to think about how their product or service will impact society. Entrepreneurs have the power to change how we live our lives since they create and commercialize new products and services that consumers will be trying out.
