For the assignment, I have chosen to showcase my lifting account on Instagram. This account is under my tag/handle, “Wavylordenzo,” and solely focuses on my passion for fitness, mainly powerlifting. Powerlifting became essential to my life because it helped me build myself physically and mentally, pushing through barriers, whether it’s nervousness or pushing a considerable amount of weight! Some tend to bring a notebook to jot down numbers or for particular critiques in the gym and how they are feeling. Although it’s a great habit, it lacks some visual content to look back on. With my lifting log, I can look back, critique my form, and discuss with my coach how I can execute lifts better. At the top of my account, viewers can see “Inducted into Team Wavy,” a team I affiliate with, and we currently have a roster of less than 40 teammates/lifters. Sometimes, other teammates will provide feedback when our coach is busy or type hype comments, which is pleasant as a little motivator. The account dates back to the post-“peak” of COVID-19, less than five years. The beginning of the account originally started as lifting posts with Star Wars memes about my lifts, then The Office, to Spongebob Squarepants, and then just regular posts with background music. I started to slowly shy away from the various shows and pop culture references because I began to run out of ideas to make memes for my lifting sessions and how they went. Also, at the top of the account, viewers may find stories that include my love for food under the nutrition story, my teammates and coach in the team tags story, or myself goofing around. Overall, the big takeaway for why I have a lifting account is that it’s a wall of memories, and it’s my journey to become a better me, as life always has its ups and downs; it’s about seeing change as we progress and move forward!
