Sport & Strategic Communications is a great elective class to take. Although some of the assignments were more rigorous than others, Dr. O’Hallarn’s enthusiasm made the class worth it! My biggest takeaway from the class is how much sports affects the world. Although we may see it daily, having lectures and assignments helps depict how every individual digests sports media. Of all the assignments, some weren’t a pain, and that’s the Sport Journal and pen pal assignments. The Sport Journal and pen pal assignment allowed us to be creative with networking to benefit our careers. Sometimes, I think about how this class has no relevance to my field of interest, but after looking back on this class, I realize that this class was 100% relevant to my field because of networking and how other people enjoy sports. In my field, we discuss athletes’ injuries, supplementation for their gain, physiological impacts, etc. In relevance, whether an athlete is injured or not, people’s perceptions and discussions about an athlete can impact their lives. Most importantly, I thoroughly enjoyed the class, and I wish that I had taken his class sooner. Also, I wish Dr. O’Hallarn taught as a senior lecturer for our exercise science department!
