Brief Description
Every shipbuilding adventure begins with a commitment to safety. I crafted an engaging training presentation for new hires, transforming essential safety protocols into an interactive experience. This artifact highlights my passion for fostering a culture of safety, ensuring everyone is equipped to navigate the shipyard safely.

Safety Task Teams Showcasing Work at Expo

The 2023 Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Expo is underway this week. The event allows EH&S task teams to showcase their work and accomplishments with shipbuilders from across Newport News Shipbuilding.
This year’s expo theme is “Get On Board with EH&S.” The first shift Virginia-Class Submarine (VCS) Program Safety Task Team is among those participating. Members of the team shared their thoughts about what it means to “get on board with EH&S” as they prepared for the expo.
- “There’s a lot of critical parts to making a train go down the tracks, and that’s kind of like the task team working with O27. If we’re all working together, we can make an impact and change the culture between safety and the craftsmen.”
Frankie Cupp - “Everyone – not just the craftsmen, but management as well – has to get on board with safety so we can work in a safe environment building great ships.”
Darren Jackson - “To me, getting on board with safety is pointing safety in the right direction for the future of the craftsmen. We have to learn from our mistakes and make it better for the future.”
William Carter - “If everyone gets on board with safety, there will be fewer incidents and accidents.”
Virgil White - “Getting on board with safety means that you come in every day looking out for yourself and your co-workers. Looking around seeing what could go wrong and doing your best to head those issues off so no one gets hurt and everyone has a good productive day and leaves the way they came.”
