Field Notes

In this course you will complete 50 hours of volunteer service. Field work is not uncommon in the field of human services. You will often spend time in the field observing and utilizing human service skills to assist clients. During this time, human service practitioners take notes of their experiences and observations to utilize in report writing at a later date. In this course, your role is of a human service practitioner. You will take notes daily during your volunteer experience and include these daily notes in an online journal found in blackboard under the tools tab. Your journal should consist of daily entries. It should include a discussion of your daily experiences and activities. Each entry should also include a reflection of your experience. (This reflection may include how you felt as a human service practitioner and possible areas for growth as a practitioner). Below are statements that you should address in your journal entries. This is not an exhaustive list. You should personalize your notes and reflection of your experiences (i.e., “I statements” should be included). Minimum of 10 entries each worth 5 points. Please see handout for additional information.
