On November 24 , 2014 a group of hackers by the name “Guardians of Peace” leaked a series of confidential data from the company Sony. The hackers were believed to be from North Korea but that is not confirmed. The hackers initiated the attack to cancel the release of a movie titled ”The Interview.” The hackers threaten to commit acts of terrorism if the demands were not  met by Sony. The psychological mechanism the hackers used was threatening the Sony employees to comply with their demands or else they would release their information. Their manipulation techniques were to put fear in the company to make them follow whatever they asked for. The hackers mostly benefited from the hack as they temporarily got  ”The Interview ”  removed from theaters . The movie was a comedy mostly making a mockery of North Korea’s leader , so the movie cancelation made the hacker happy that their country wasn’t used as a parody. There were many consequences for the company as the hacked released some things they wouldn’t be shown to light. The hackers released 5 unreleased movies which hurt Sony by losing money. The hackers also released emails from its employees that stated nasty comments about actors such as Kevin Hart, Jennifer Aniston and more. The main consequence was that the hackers released over thousands of confidential documents from Sony. To prevent this, Sony should have more secure devices such as anti-virus software and set spam emails high on their list. They should always look out for potential risk, if something looks suspicious before an actual attack happens then they should get on the problem immediately.
