From what this video shows, there is a decent bit of accuracy when it comes to hacking and cybersecurity in media. Of course, there are cases of the “Bypassing the mainframe…” and “Computer enhance…” moments in media, but the movies/shows that were showcased in the video all appeared to be somewhat accurate. The most egregious parts are how quickly everything happens, though. Many hacking scenes occur anywhere from a couple of minutes to a split second, which is incredibly unrealistic and often gives the misconception that hacking and other cyber attacks occur super quickly. Usually, most attacks take from weeks to years of setup and execution. This, in turn, makes the field of cybersecurity look incredibly important, which is true, but gives a false perspective on how hacking/cyberattacks actually work/happen and make it look deceptively easy to get into any government database.
