Volunteering at First Start ODU Academy

My time volunteering at First Start ODU Academy allowed me to engage with the community beyond my coursework. As a volunteer, I worked closely with students, providing academic support and encouragement to help them overcome challenges. This experience reinforced my teaching and mentoring skills while giving me the opportunity to positively impact the lives of young learners. By fostering a supportive environment, I contributed to their academic and personal growth. Volunteering at the academy deepened my connection to my discipline by highlighting the importance of mentorship and service, which are vital in fostering teamwork and collaboration in any professional setting.

Full-Time Caregiving Role

Balancing a full-time job as a caregiver while pursuing my degree has been both challenging and rewarding. In this role, I provided essential care and support to clients, ensuring their well-being and comfort. This experience required strong problem-solving skills and a high level of responsibility. My work as a caregiver strengthened my ability to remain patient, adaptable, and empathetic under pressure. These skills have shaped me into a more compassionate and resourceful individual, qualities that I will bring to my future career in cybersecurity.

Babysitting and Tutoring

In addition to my full-time job, I babysat on weekends and supported my sibling’s education through tutoring sessions whenever time permitted. Babysitting required me to manage my time effectively while providing a safe and nurturing environment for children. Tutoring involved helping my sibling with schoolwork and providing guidance to support their academic progress. Both experiences allowed me to further develop my mentorship and time management skills. These roles taught me the value of balancing multiple responsibilities and strengthened my ability to mentor others effectively.
