On this page, is my proposal for my artificial intelligence innovation.
Artificial Intelligence is a huge problem. It’s a means to an end for many things. While
AI can serve good purposes, it can also be used for great harm. The problem with AI is the type of information it could use. AI left unchecked opens the door to many copyright infringements. AI needs to be tweaked to protect IP (Intellectual Property). Right now, AI in its current state does not have regulations or barriers protecting IP.
We know AI is a problem because, just like an unlocked door, there will always be a risk
that someone can break in. This is why we need deterrents and corrective controls to stop IP
utilization. As of right now, it’s relatively easy to pull source material from an AI Chatbot.
Creativity and innovation would be severely harmed by continuing to allow these type of
practices. Some AI starter-up companies have ethical practices that go against piracy, but with
this technology being so advanced, we need more than a corporate company policy.
My solution to this problem is petitioning Congress to pass laws to protect all businesses
from this new growing technology. Creating a petition and gathering support nationwide from
different tech companies would help. Additionally, developing an algorithm that can recognize
information it is being fed and detect copywritten material.
I expect several barriers to my proposal. With so many advocates for AI, I predict people
will want to keep the government away from AI. However, along with personal vendettas, there
will be other challenges to overcome. Developing reliable AI algorithms that can recognize
copywritten content will not be easy. AI will require more research and money. Second,
protecting people’s privacy will be extremely challenging. When analyzing data, people’s data
and personal privacy must be protected while balancing law enforcement. Third, with copyright
detection, there is bound to be false positives. We have to ensure content is not mistakenly
flagged, and information flow isn’t stopped due to incompetence. Lastly, being proactive and in the know of pirate’s new techniques to continue piracy. They will always be outlaws looking for new methods to break the law; it’s our job to stay on top of them. Continually analyzing pirates’ new methodologies will promote our success. I will know I’m successful if the following terms are met first if we are able to see a reduction in reported copyright infringement and IP violations. If there is a decrease in cases, this would indicate that our methods are succeeding. Second, if companies that utilize AI are aware of copyright laws and implement change, this would demonstrate success. Third, improving our response time with IP violators will demonstrate application. Lastly, taking appropriate legal action against violators will show that they are not messing around and that we mean business.
