Mutations in the cell signaling pathways can lead to abnormal and uncontrollable cell growth and cancer. This topic was interesting because of how many different types of mutations there are and what there functions were. In silent mutations, there is no change in the amino acid but in missense mutations, one amino acid is substituted for another. In nonsense a stop coding is brought in and lead to the termination of premature proteins. Understanding this concept at the cellular and molecular level made it helpful for me to interpret experimental data on gene expression and mutations that I will take in the future.

Here are some of my assignments that helped me develop an understanding of cell biology.

Assignment #1 Finding a Unique Cell

In this assignment, we researched a unique cell used in medicine today as part of a treatment plan for a human disease/condition and explained its role and function in the human body.

Unique-CellDownload

Assignment #2 The Longevity Factor Foxo3

In this assignment we summarized this report making sure to detail key concepts including; Smad, Foxo3, ROS, Bcl2, Sonic hedgehog, and apoptosis.
