After looking through indeed.com I stumbled across a great exciting opportunity that I
could see myself applying to in the near future. In the following I will discuss the intended
companies background, the overall job requirements, and my qualities as an applicant.
The company is CGI Group Inc. According to CGI “Founded in 1976, CGI is among the
largest IT and business consulting services firms in the world. We are insights-driven and
outcome-based to help accelerate returns on your IT and business investments. In all we do, our
goal is to build trusted relationships through client proximity, providing industry and technology
expertise to help you meet the needs of your customers and citizens.” This excerpt helps better
understand the following: the company’s role, the direction of the company, and also the size of
the company. As stated in the excerpt, being amongst one of the largest IT and business
consulting services in the world has a big role for myself. Applying for a big company is one of
two things. Competition is high to get in, but the job is more stable. I would feel that having a
job in a big company would be less stressful than working for a smaller company due to the
overall workload. However, there will also be more competition to get into these positions.
The following job roles or responsibilities according to the job description on indeed:
a. Assist with leading agency integration into a cloud-based shared services platform
b. Will require establishing, troubleshooting and maintaining a secure
communication path
c. Implement and configure security products for a federal government agency,
including vulnerability scanners, endpoint protection tools, firewall, VPN and
network access control
d. Support and enhance the agency’s integration goals by deploying and maintaining
security tools and capabilities
e. Assist in the maintenance of technical documentation of the agency’s architecture
and configurations
f. Assist the agencies in understanding and implementing continuous cyber
monitoring
The skills required from the ad are the following to assist, implement, support, enhance,
and establish. These are the specific key terms that are in the required skills needed. After going
through a couple job descriptions or skills requirements these are standard skills sought after.
After reading the ad text and companies’ aim it gave me a better understanding of the
type of candidate they are looking for. In this particular role they are looking for a candidate who
is willing to have an agile mindset, professional, also attentive to detail. They are looking for a
candidate who is also willing to learn and grow with the role. The ad text is very detailed and
oriented to depict what they are specifically looking for.
The courses I have taken align with the role and also skills needed for this position. Since
this is an entry level position, they don’t need the specific skills. However, I have all the needed
skills for this job in particular. I have a background in network access controls, firewalls, VPN
and network access control. These are the main “hard skills” needed for this role. I have a course
list of classes that satisfy these requirements.
The overall role of this position is an entry level cyber security engineer. It doesn’t
contain a level or rank in the position name.
The requirements based of the indeed ad are the following:
1) Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (i.e., Computer Science, Information Security
or similar Engineering discipline)
2) Apply principles, methods and knowledge of cybersecurity to approach difficult
and narrowly defined technical problems to arrive at automated solutions
3) Experience with scripting languages (such as python, JSON), API calls, and data
analytics
4) Ability to learn quickly and able to grasp new tools and concepts quickly and
efficiently in order to implement emerging and innovative solutions
5) A great attitude and desire for learning
6) Excellent problem solving, written and verbal communication skills
7) Flexibility and ability to deal with ambiguity
8) Ability to work within a team environment, collaborating with technical teams

passing of CGI background check is required; candidates must also have ability to
obtain and maintain a DHS EOD/Public Trust clearance
I think a focused individual would be an unstated skill needed for this position. I feel that
being focused would help with this role. I feel that since this company is one of the largest it will
be a motivator for the future and stick around for a while. I think that since this company is
already large there is a need or demand for the company to hire more of these positions.
However, this company would look good on my resume for future job opportunities.
I want this position because it is my intended degree. I am a cybersecurity student that
has taken various different engineering courses. I feel that this would be a good fit for me.
According to indeed ad post, “agency’s architecture and configurations.” I have taken various
computer architecture courses that would fulfill this needed section of the role. I think I would fit
well into this company’s culture because it follows my interests. I think my It background would
mesh well with the company culture. Since this is a huge part of the company’s culture.
I feel that the challenge I would face as a person in this role would be understanding the
company’s language and flow. Transitioning as a student to the workplace would be a completely
different ballgame. This ads presentation makes me feel nervous but excited at the same time. I
feel that I am prepared enough to sign up for this role.
