In the latter half of my internship at CINCH and EVMS, I became much more comfortable in my role and was able to complete my assigned duties with a greater sense of confidence and independence. I continued my involvement with the Teen Substance Use and Mental Health Initiatives team and the \u201cWhat\u2019s Up with Teen Marijuana Use\u201d<\/em> research study. While gaining more knowledge of the workflow and its expectations, I developed my skills in communicating with staff members, our community partners, families, and caregivers.
\nAn important task I was assigned was locating and taking part in community outreach events where we could interact with the families and inform them about the research study. I took part in different community events, school initiatives, and health clinic outreach events where I helped set up informational tables, speak to the attendees, answer their questions, and explain the reason for the research. I also gained more experience in communicating with a variety of people, and I understood the importance of being an effective communicator when speaking about issues related to health and medicine. Besides, I kept entering and sorting out the parent surveys into the database system, improving my attention to details and expanding<\/p>\n

Moreover, I got a chance to collaborate more with my mentor and other colleagues through answering phone calls, scheduling meetings, reaching out to community organizations, and preparing material for outreach activities. By doing these tasks, I learned important lessons in teamwork, organization, and communication in a professional environment. Furthermore, I understood the importance of public health research in meeting the needs of the community and the importance of partnerships to reach out to families that can benefit from information, education, and assistance. On the whole, this part of my internship contributed positively to my personal and professional growth. I was able to utilize the knowledge I had gained through my Health Services Administration courses to practical experience, and at the same time improve my communication, research, data analysis, organization and community relations skills which will be beneficial for my future career.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
