When it comes to storing electronic information about individuals, there are a few ethical concerns due to risks associated with the data being stored. The four main ethical concerns associated with storing individual’s information electronically are:

  1. Confidentiality: The first word in the CIA Triad had to make it to the top of the list. A very large ethical concern is the privacy of the information that is being stored, since it is their personal data. Electronically storing sensitive information such as health records, or financial credentials, generates the concern of its safety, as the individuals would prefer it doesn’t get stolen.
  2. Data Ownership: This was a big story in the news in recent years, but the ownership of the data, and consent of how it is used was a big deal regarding how Facebook was using users data. Facebook was misusing its users data, without the consent of the users. When the data is stored electronically, the concern of misuse by companies in another ethical concern.
  3. Data Access: Storing data electronically means there has to be some regulations in place that grant appropriate access to the stored information, and it’s not out there for everyone to see whenever they want. The ethical concern is people accessing the data without proper authorization, thus leading to the misuse of the data.
  4. Integrity: The second part of the CIA Triad is integrity. This is very important, and a concern when it comes to data security, as you want to maintain the accuracy, and integrity of your data. However, the ethical concern comes because it is stored electronically, and inaccurate data due to human error, system glitches, or intentional tempering will result in the data being compromised, and can have negative impacts.

Comparing the cybersecurity risks in the US and the UK, they are quite similar, but have minor differences. For instance, there were more business takeover attempts in the US, however they were more successful in the UK. From the research done, more cyberattacks are taken on the US, but there are more successful attacks in the UK.
