Cyber technology is a wonderful asset that provides a plethora of benefits, and capabilities that keep us, and our sensitive information safe from cyberattacks. However, without a doubt, cyber technology has created new opportunities for workplace deviance. Data breaches are a huge problem in the modern era, with companies such as Target falling victim to large data breaches. The interconnected systems and networks are much easier to access with cybersecurity technology, and an employee who has malicious intent would be able to identify, and exploit vulnerabilities and weaknesses with the computer systems to gain access to the data.
Cyber technology has also made it easier for cyberbullying in the workplace, and in general. Due to the anonymity provided by cyber technology, it is much easier for groups of people, or individuals to bully a coworker without repercussions. Taking advantage of this to verbally assault, or spread rumors about a coworker in order to harm their reputation, or to make them feel alienated is a downside that cybersecurity technology brings.
Attackers are able to utilize cyber technology to improve their methods of attack–Phishing, and fraud are examples of how cyber technology is commonly used. With technological improvement, attackers are able to better construct websites, and other programs to attack an organization or individual. Getting an employee from a business to interact with phishing sites would cause a lot of problems for the workplace, including financial losses, and possibly the organization going out of business. This is common with small, to medium-sized businesses in recent years, with more that %60 falling victim to cyberattacks.
For safety to be ensured, is it crucial that organizations understand, and are aware of the threats to them due to cyber technology. Companies must take preventative measures such as cybersecurity training for employees, and updating software to protect against cyberattacks.
