Engineers help to ensure the safety of cyber networks by utilizing various approaches to improve the security of the cyber networks. The approaches use include risk assessment, where the engineers perform risk assessment for a business or organization to identify the weaknesses, or vulnerabilities that a network possesses. Once an engineer finds what the vulnerabilities are, they are able to communicate to the business or organization to prioritize their security on the weaknesses present. Another way engineers help ensure the safety of cyber networks is the development of intrusion detection systems that will monitor the network and identify and malicious activities. When a threat is detected, it is important to have a response plan to properly deal with the incoming threat.–that’s where engineers come in. Engineers work to develop an appropriate incident response plan appropriately response to any security incident in a timely and effective manner.
Cybersecurity and criminal justice overlap due to the fact that cybersecurity deals with defending against cyberattacks, which are committed by cybercriminals. Criminal justice deals with the criminal, and law area of cybercriminals, whereas cybersecurity works to defend against it. Also, digital forensics is an area of criminal justice, since many cybercrimes that are committed leave digital evidence which can be collected, and analyzed. To find these trails of evidence, the field of cybersecurity can be used. When it comes to cybersecurity regulations and policies, criminal justice help work to make the regulations and policies to ensure that cybersecurity is used appropriately, and is not being abused. Given that cybersecurity often has access to users data, ensuring the proper handling, and security of the data is important, which is where criminal justice comes in. Criminal justice works to develop laws, and amend existing ones in order to address proper punishments for cybercriminals, which can be a challenge.
